Alison is a research associate on the Beastly Business project. Drawing on her critical green criminological background; her research investigates the nature of and perceptions toward the (il)legal exploitation of European eels.

This focus builds on her previous PhD research which examined the intersections between the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) regulations for marine wildlife (the minke whale, queen conch, and Atlantic bluefin tuna) and the visibility of harms and crimes surrounding them.

She is interested in bringing forward non-speciesist and victim centred approaches within green criminology to better understand the various harms and crimes impacting the European eel. An additional focus on the crimes of the powerful and state-corporate crimes will help shed light on the role of Europe in the trade and trafficking of the species.
